Sunnyside

Established 1914

Sunnyside is situated on the north bank of the Bow River. The first housing boom occurred during the early 1900s - when the schools were expanded and commercial development along 10th Street gained momentum. A challenge to the community's long term future came in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a result of the decisions made in the 1950s, which allowed for higher density development. Sunnyside is within close proximity to the Downtown, Sunnyside L.R.T. station, the Bow River, and abundant open space. A trendy restaurant and shopping district has developed within this inner city community along 10th Street N.W., which spurred the establishment of the 10th Street Business Revitalization Zone. Sunnyside maintains close ties to the adjacent Hillhurst community.
